Since its inception, the primary goal of Wildhaven has been to rehabilitate and then release native animals back to the wild where we know they belong.

To that end, the San Bernardino Mountains Wildlife Society created the “Forever Free Wildlife Care Center” as a part of the Wildhaven Ranch compound. To date, Forever Free has skillfully rescued and cared for hundreds of indigenous wildlife and has a release rate of over 75% back into the wild!

At Forever Free, injured and orphaned native animals are provided
with a protective environment where they can be nurtured,
rehabilitated and restored, and then released.

After initial exam in Triage, the animal may be treated with medication,
fluids and/or physical therapy. Then the patient spends time in
observation learning how to adapt to flight training, hunting and the
recognition of natural, native foods and shelter.

To achieve these goals, the staff of Wildhaven Ranch works very
closely with local veterinarians, government wildlife officials, and
other experts on particular species.

All Wildhaven Ranch wildlife rehabilitators are highly trained
specialists who have been certified by the International Wildlife
Rehabilitation Council (IWRC) or have received professional
certification, experience or education by a recognized wildlife
organization and listed under our general permit by the California
State Department of Fish & Game and the U.S. Department of Fish and Wildlife.

Because rehab animals are destined for return to the wild, human contact is severely restricted at Forever Free, and the animals in rehabilitation are never displayed to the public or used for educational purposes.

It takes an incredible amount of time and money and hard labor to rehabilitate wild animals. But when the moment comes to release the red-tailed hawk into the sky – or the yearling black bear into the forest, the thrill of the release makes it all worthwhile.
